Sprinkler Spruce-Up--It's time to turn on those Sprinklers!
When it comes to a home's irrigation system, a little maintenance goes a long way. If your home has an underground water system or if you use the units connected to your own hoses, you have to be careful! Watch out for too much water in your yard!
If you have an irrigation system, it can waste even more if it’s programmed incorrectly, a sprinkler head is pointed in the wrong direction, or you have a leak. Before you ramp up your watering efforts, spruce up your irrigation system by remembering four simple steps: inspect, connect, direct, and select.
Make sure you inspect each zone carefully to make sure the heads aren't broken and leaking or if they are pointed in the wrong direction. Over the winter, damage can occur and as well as during the season when a lawn mower can break a sprinkler head. Wasted water is bad for your lawn and bad for your pocket-book. If your system is not working it can cause major problems for you. Even with the small units that you control yourself--don't forget that you turned the hose on. Even a few extra minutes of water can be harmful to your yard or your home. The tiniest leak can wreak havoc in your home.
Also, some towns only allow you to water your lawn on certain days or times so check your local municipalities. If you use an irrigation company, they can help you set your system for the correct timing and days for watering. If you're home when they come to check, walk around your yard with them to become familiar with where the sprinkler heads are located and that they are all working and pointed in the correct direction. You don't want to be watering the street or your neighbors bushes.
Water is a 4 letter word--so to speak! Regular home maintenance is inconvenient but it's necessary and worth it. A little time to make sure your sprinklers are working properly saves a lot of time and money. Have a great summer and enjoy the benefits of a beautiful lawn!
